Rescue from Height Course

A 1-day certificate in Working at Height Rescue.

This course provides candidates with the knowledge and practical competence to plan and carry out the rescue of a suspended casualty whilst working at height, in line with the Work at Height Regulations 2005. It covers legal requirements, rescue planning, suspension intolerance, and the selection and use of rescue equipment. Through practical scenarios, delegates will learn to recover a casualty safely and efficiently, and understand their responsibilities in implementing effective rescue procedures.

  • Employer and employee responsibilities

  • Rescue planning requirements


Theory of Suspension and Rescue

  • Suspension intolerance (suspension trauma)

  • Casualty considerations

  • Time-critical nature of rescue

  • Rescue hierarchy


Rescue Equipment

  • Various rescue kits, components and selection thereof

  • Raising and lowering devices

  • Connectors and anchorage requirements

  • Equipment limitations and compatibility


Rescue Planning

  • Risk assessment for rescue and selection of appropriate rescue method

  • Casualty management considerations

  • Emergency procedures


Practical Rescue Exercises

  • Casualty recovery from fall arrest systems

  • Raising and lowering techniques

  • Casualty attachment and transfer

  • Team rescue techniques

  • Casualty descent to a place of safety


Post-Rescue Actions

  • Casualty aftercare considerations

  • Equipment quarantine and inspection

  • Incident reporting


Course Prerequisites:

  • Candidates must be medically fit to undertake the training and will be asked to self-certify during the induction.

  • Candidates must not exceed 140kg (22 stones) weight limit of the fall protection equipment used.

  • Basic English literacy skills for written and verbal assessments.
